Prayers for doubt
Questions are allowed here. Doubt is not the opposite of faith; it’s usually the sign that your faith is being rebuilt on something realer than borrowed certainty.
These prayers are for praying while unsure, in the honest company of the man who told Jesus: I believe, help my unbelief.

When you believe and do not believe at once
Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" Mark 9:24 (NIV)
Lord, I believe; help me overcome my unbelief! This is my honest prayer. I have faith, but it is mixed with doubt. Strengthen what faith I have.

Questions people ask
Is doubt a sin?
The letter of Jude says to be merciful to those who doubt, which is a strange instruction if doubt were itself the problem. Thomas asked for evidence and got it, without a rebuke.
Can I pray when I am not sure God is there?
The most quoted prayer on this page is one sentence long and says both things at once: I believe, help my unbelief. It is in scripture because someone said it, and it worked.
Does doubting mean I am losing my faith?
Not necessarily, and often it is the opposite. People who stop caring do not doubt; they drift. Doubt usually means the question still matters to you.
The passages behind these prayers
Some of these come up again and again, in more than one kind of hard day. Each passage has its own page with what was going on when it was written, and what it does not claim: 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 , 2 Corinthians 4:8-18 , Ephesians 3:14-21 , Hebrews 4:15-16 , Hebrews 13:1-6 , Isaiah 30:15 , Jeremiah 17:5-8 , and John 16:33 .
When the words still won’t come
Sometimes what you’re carrying doesn’t fit one category. You might also find what you need in prayers for grief and despair or prayers for when you are angry. And if all you can manage today is a single sentence, that counts. God has never graded prayers by length.
