You are supposed to be unbreakable. People bring you their worst day; you carry it, you make the call, you go to the next room, under a pressure the rest of the world never sees: the case that follows you home, the evaluation, the grant, the match, the colleague who seems to need nothing. Medicine rewards the person who never needs anything. Faith does not work that way. These nine short prayers are for the healer who needs some of what they give away. Pick the moment you are in. Nobody is watching, and nobody will ask you to join anything.

Nobody was meant to do this alone. These are the places Christians in healthcare already find each other. They are their own organizations; we list them, we do not vouch for any group. Go slow, same as anywhere.

Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA) Physicians, dentists and students, 13,000 members by their own count, with local chapters on many campuses and in many cities.
Nurses Christian Fellowship For nurses and nursing students, part of InterVarsity, with a newsletter and local groups.
Catholic Medical Association Catholic physicians and healthcare workers, organized in city guilds.
Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International For pharmacists and pharmacy students.

Boston Healthcare Fellowship Christian healthcare professionals and students across Boston's hospitals and schools, with monthly gatherings and an email list.

Is this for nurses and other clinicians too, or only doctors?

For everyone who carries other people's worst days: physicians, nurses, NPs, PAs, techs, aides, therapists, chaplains, students and residents. The prayers are written for the weight and the pressure, not for a title.

Do I need an account to read these?

No. Every prayer on this site is free to read with no account. The morning email is optional, one field to start and one click to stop.

Is Sanctuary a church, or a counseling service?

Neither. Sanctuary is a free faith companion from International Bible Ministries, a 501(c)(3). It is not a church, not counseling, and not a crisis service. If you are in danger or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988.

Do you run the Boston conference?

No. Heal the Healers, a separate ministry founded by a physician, runs it. We list it because it is for the same people this page is for. Registration and questions about it go to their site.
