Perplexed But Not in Despair

A prayer for doubt, from 2 Corinthians 4:8-18

Perplexed is exactly the word for it: too many questions, none of them resolving, all of them heavy. Paul wrote that being perplexed doesn't have to collapse into despair, and he wrote it from experience. A prayer for carrying real questions without letting them bury you.

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:8-18 (NIV)

The prayer

Lord, I am perplexed by so many things, but I will not surrender to despair. My doubts are real, but so is Your promise of renewal. Help me fix my eyes on the eternal, invisible realities while I navigate these momentary troubles.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
