Sometimes doubt isn't intellectual at all. It's a crushed spirit, faith flattened by everything that's happened. This psalm makes no argument; it just says God stays closest exactly there. A prayer from the floor, for when that's where you are.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
The prayer
God, my spirit is crushed by doubt and despair. But You are close to the brokenhearted. Save me. Be near.
