Prayers for shame and guilt
Some shame we earn and can bring to God for forgiveness. But some shame was handed to you, taught to you, preached onto you, and was never yours to carry.
These prayers help you tell the difference, and start setting down the part that was never yours. There is now no condemnation. That sentence is for you too.

When you feel condemned by God
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 (NIV)
Lord, the weight of shame is crushing me. I feel unworthy, broken, and exposed. Remind me that in You there is no condemnation. Break these chains of shame and help me walk in the freedom You offer.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between guilt and shame?
Guilt is about something you did. Shame is the feeling that something is wrong with you. Scripture has a great deal to say to the first and treats the second very differently from how church culture often does.
Can I pray if I feel too ashamed?
Yes, and that is what the Hebrews prayer here is for: it is specifically about approaching God with confidence at the moment you feel least entitled to.
What if the shame came from church?
That is common enough to have its own prayer here. Shame that was taught to you is not the same as conviction, and it does not have to be treated as if God said it.
The passages behind these prayers
Some of these come up again and again, in more than one kind of hard day. Each passage has its own page with what was going on when it was written, and what it does not claim: 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 , Ephesians 1:3-14 , Hebrews 4:15-16 , Psalm 31:1 , Psalm 57:1 , and Psalm 94:18 .
When the words still won’t come
Sometimes what you’re carrying doesn’t fit one category. You might also find what you need in prayers for broken trust and betrayal or prayers for fear and anxiety. And if all you can manage today is a single sentence, that counts. God has never graded prayers by length.
