Confidence Despite Shame

A prayer for shame, from Hebrews 4:15-16

Shame's whole strategy is hiding: keep your head down, don't be seen, don't come forward. Hebrews gives the exact opposite instruction to people like you: approach the throne with confidence. A prayer for walking in anyway, un-hidden.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16 (NIV)

The prayer

Father, shame tells me to hide, but Your Word says I can approach Your throne with confidence. Jesus understands my weakness. I come boldly to receive mercy that lifts my shame and grace that covers my failures.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
