Healing from Religious Shame
A prayer for shame, from Matthew 11:28
Some shame you weren't born with and didn't earn. It was taught, preached, handed to you in God's name by people who should have known better. This prayer names that plainly and asks Jesus to take back what was never his idea.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
The prayer
Jesus, the church taught me to be ashamed of who I am. I carry shame that was never mine to bear. Free me from toxic shame and show me how You truly see me - beloved and accepted.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
