Adoption and Acceptance
A prayer for shame, from Ephesians 1:3-14
Shame says you're lucky to be tolerated. This passage says something staggering instead: chosen, before the foundation of the world, on purpose, for adoption. A prayer for letting the older, truer sentence outvote the loud one.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:3-14 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, shame tells me I am unworthy of love, but You predestined me for adoption. You chose me to be holy and blameless in Your sight. Your acceptance of me through Christ silences every accusation.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
