Plenty of belonging comes with conditions: show up, serve, stay in good standing. The last sentence of Matthew's gospel has no fine print like that. Jesus ties his presence to nothing you do and no roster you're on, and he puts no expiration on it.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:20 (NIV)
The prayer
Jesus, You promised to be with me always, to the very end of the age. In my loneliness, I hold onto this promise. You are with me right now.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today.
Amen can wait until you mean it.
