Not Alone in Suffering
A prayer for loneliness, from 1 Peter 5:6-11
Peter wrote this to believers living as exiles, scattered far from anyone who knew them. If your faith has cost you a community, that isn't a strange or shameful place to be. God cares about what's weighing on you, and the restoring is his work, in his time.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:6-11 (NIV)
The prayer
Father, in my loneliness I am tempted to believe I am the only one suffering like this. But Your Word reminds me that believers throughout the world share in the same struggles. I am not as alone as I feel. You care for me, and You will restore me. Lift me up in due time, Lord.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
