Not Abandoned
A prayer for loneliness, from 2 Corinthians 4:8-18
Some days the pressure comes from every direction, and the people who should have stood by you are nowhere. Paul doesn't soften that, but he refuses to let it be the whole story: God hasn't walked away, and under all the visible wearing down, something in you is being made new.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:8-18 (NIV)
The prayer
God, I feel persecuted and isolated, but Your Word says I am not abandoned. You have not left me. Though I feel struck down, I am not destroyed. Renew me inwardly even as everything around me seems to waste away.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
