Never Forsaken

A prayer for loneliness, from Deuteronomy 31:8

These words were spoken to people about to cross into unfamiliar country without the leader they had followed for forty years. That may be close to where you are: walking forward without the people and structures that used to hold your faith up. God goes ahead of you into it, and he doesn't stay behind with what you left.

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

The prayer

God, in my deepest loneliness, I hold onto Your promise: You will never leave me or forsake me. You go before me. I am not alone.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
