The Lord is My Helper

A prayer for loneliness, from Hebrews 13:1-6

This is a prayer for when people have taken a lot from you: a community, your friendships, a place to be on Sunday morning. The passage under it stands on what no person can take, a God who has promised to stay. That's why the writer can say out loud that he isn't afraid of what people do.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" Hebrews 13:1-6 (NIV)

The prayer

God, in my isolation I cling to Your promise: You will never leave me or forsake me. The Lord is my helper. Even when everyone else has walked away, You remain.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
