My Refuge and Fortress
A prayer for loneliness, from Psalm 91:1-2
A sanctuary was supposed to be the safe place, and for you it stopped being one. This psalm never located safety in a room anyway: the shelter is God himself, and the invitation is to live there, not visit once a week. Whoever moves in gets to rest.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:1-2 (NIV)
The prayer
God, I dwell in Your shelter. I rest in Your shadow. You are my refuge and fortress. I am not alone—I am hidden in You.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
