Take Heart
A prayer for grief, from John 16:33
In this world you will have trouble is one of the most honest sentences Jesus ever said, and it's followed immediately by take heart. Both halves are true. A prayer for the days despair claims to be the final word, from the one who already overcame it.
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33 (NIV)
The prayer
Jesus, You never promised me a trouble-free life, but You promised peace in the midst of trouble. I take heart—You have overcome the world. My despair is not the final word.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
