Comfort in All Troubles
A prayer for grief, from 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Paul doesn't call God the explainer of all troubles. He calls him the God of all comfort, which is a different thing, and often the only thing a grieving person can actually receive. A prayer for taking the comfort without needing the explanation first.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (NIV)
The prayer
God of all comfort, in my grief I turn to You. You are the Father of compassion who meets me in my troubles. I receive Your comfort today, and I trust that this suffering will one day equip me to comfort others. May Your comfort abound in my life through Christ.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
