A Living Hope
A prayer for grief, from 1 Peter 1:3-4
Grief tells you that what's lost is simply lost, and some days that argument feels airtight. Peter answers with a hope he calls living, anchored to a resurrection, kept where nothing can perish or fade. A prayer for holding onto something grief can't repossess.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3-4 (NIV)
The prayer
Father, in my grief and despair, I cling to Your promise of living hope. You have given me new birth through Jesus' resurrection. My inheritance in You can never perish, spoil, or fade. Even when everything around me feels dark, I trust that You are keeping my hope secure in heaven. Help me lift my eyes beyond my present sorrow to the eternal hope I have in You.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
