Watch Out for Deceivers
A prayer for betrayal, from Romans 16:17-19
If you have ever been told that leaving was rebellion, read what Paul actually instructed: keep your distance from leaders who feed on the people they are supposed to serve. Discernment is not cynicism or a lack of faith. This prayer asks for sharper eyes, so it cannot happen to you the same way twice.
I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. Romans 16:17-19 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, help me watch out for those who cause divisions and teach contrary to Your word. Give me wisdom to recognize those serving their own appetites. Make me wise about what is good.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
