A High Priest Who Understands

A prayer for betrayal, from Hebrews 4:15-16

If the word priest makes your stomach tighten, this passage was written for you. It describes Jesus as a priest who is nothing like the ones who failed you, one who gets it from the inside and hands out mercy instead of judgment. You can come to Him directly, without flinching.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16 (NIV)

The prayer

Lord Jesus, You understand the pain of betrayal. You were betrayed by a close friend. I approach Your throne of grace with confidence, knowing You empathize with my weakness. Give me mercy and grace in my time of need.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
