Trust in the Lord

A prayer for betrayal, from Jeremiah 17:5-8

When your deepest roots were in a congregation and the ground gave way, you learn to be careful where you plant again. Jeremiah pictures a life rooted by the stream itself, drawing from a source no person controls. Pray this when you are deciding where your trust goes next.

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. Jeremiah 17:5-8 (NIV)

The prayer

Lord, I have learned the danger of trusting in humans alone. Help me put my full confidence in You. Make me like a tree planted by water, with roots that reach deep into Your love.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
