Shield Around Me

A prayer for betrayal, from Psalm 3:3-4

David wrote this while running from an enemy who came out of his own family. If the people who turned on you shared your pews and your prayers, you know that particular ache. Here is a psalm for walking with your head up when they expected you to slink away in shame.

But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. Psalm 3:3-4 (NIV)

The prayer

Lord, many have risen against me, but You are a shield around me. You are my glory and the One who lifts my head high. When others have betrayed me, You answer me from Your holy mountain.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
