Empathy in Grief
A prayer for grief, from Hebrews 4:15-16
Jesus stood at his friend's tomb and wept, with the resurrection minutes away. He knows this territory firsthand. A prayer for bringing your grief to someone who doesn't need it explained.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, You wept at the tomb of Lazarus. You know grief. I approach Your throne of grace boldly, knowing You empathize with my sorrow. Meet me with mercy and grace in this season of despair.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
