Psalm 23:4

3 prayers from this passage, for grief, fear & anxiety, loneliness

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4 (NIV)

What was going on when this was written

Written by someone who kept sheep and knew what a valley at dusk was actually like. The preposition is through, and the psalm does not say the valley is short, or that you will not be afraid while you are in it. What it claims is narrower and harder to argue with: that you are not walking it by yourself.
