Rest for Your Soul
A prayer for grief, from Matthew 11:28-29
Grief is physically heavy. It wears out your body along with everything else. Jesus' invitation to the weary and burdened has no fine print about being spiritually impressive first: just come, and I will give you rest. A prayer for the tired version of you.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29 (NIV)
The prayer
Jesus, I am weary and burdened with grief. I come to You for rest. Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. You are gentle and humble. Give me rest for my weary soul.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
