My Rock and Fortress
A prayer for grief, from Psalm 18:1-2
This psalm opens with something grief rarely leaves room for: I love you, Lord. Then it stacks up what he's been through the worst of it all: rock, fortress, deliverer, shield, stronghold. A prayer for loving God from inside the ruins.
I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:1-2 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, I love You. You are my strength in grief. You are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. I take refuge in You. You are my shield and my stronghold.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
