Calmed and Quieted
A prayer for grief, from Psalm 131:2
A weaned child with its mother isn't demanding anything anymore; it's just staying close because close is good. This psalm reaches for that kind of quiet, on the far side of striving. A prayer for calming a soul that has been loud with sorrow for a long time.
But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. Psalm 131:2 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, I calm and quiet my soul. Like a weaned child with its mother, I am content. I do not concern myself with matters too great for me. I rest in You.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
