All Things Hold Together
A prayer for fear & anxiety, from Colossians 1:15-17
Anxiety insists that everything is coming apart, and it says it convincingly. Colossians answers with a bigger claim: in Christ all things hold together, thrones and powers included. A prayer for when it feels like the falling apart is winning.
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:15-17 (NIV)
The prayer
Jesus, when fear makes me feel like everything is falling apart, I remember that in You all things hold together. You are sovereign over every throne, power, ruler, and authority. Nothing is beyond Your control. Hold me together today.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
