Slow to Anger
A prayer for anger, from James 1:19-20
This is a prayer for when you're tired of your own temper, when the anger keeps arriving faster than your judgment and you don't like who it's making you. James doesn't shame the feeling; he just knows what human anger builds, and asks for something better.
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, help me be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. I know that my anger does not produce the righteousness You desire. Give me Your patience and self-control.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
