My Portion

A prayer for grief, from Psalm 16:5-8

Loss redraws the boundary lines of a life, and what's left can look like very little. This psalm stakes everything on one holding: the Lord himself as your portion and your cup. A prayer for when he's most of what you have left, and enough.

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. Psalm 16:5-8 (NIV)

The prayer

Lord, You alone are my portion and my cup. Even in grief, You make my lot secure. I keep my eyes always on You. With You at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
