Joy Comes in the Morning
A prayer for grief, from Psalm 30:5
Weeping may stay for the night is the part of this verse people skip to get to the rejoicing, but it's in there on purpose: the night is real and it has a length. A prayer for holding on until dawn, without being rushed there.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, weeping has stayed for this long night. But I trust that rejoicing comes in the morning. Your favor lasts a lifetime. Help me hold on until dawn breaks.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today. Amen can wait until you mean it.
