Careful with this one: it's the psalmist's own verdict on his own affliction, looking back, and nobody gets to hand it to you about yours. But some people do reach a day where the hardest stretch taught them something they'd never give back. A prayer for if you're nearing that day, at your own pace.
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word. It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. Psalm 119:67, 71 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, before I was afflicted I went astray. But this grief has taught me to obey Your word. It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn Your decrees.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today.
Amen can wait until you mean it.
