Grief keeps strange hours: awake before dawn, eyes open through the watches of the night. This psalm was written by someone who knew that schedule and prayed inside it. A prayer for the sleepless, with hope parked in God's word until morning.
I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. Psalm 119:147-149 (NIV)
The prayer
Lord, I rise before dawn and cry for help. My hope is in Your word. Through sleepless nights of grief, I meditate on Your promises. Hear my voice according to Your love.
Make it yours: change any words that don’t fit, or stop at the one line that’s true today.
Amen can wait until you mean it.
