The first weeks away from home
New room, new town, everyone else already has their people.
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

God, I am in a room that is not mine yet, in a town I do not know, and everyone else seems to have found their people already. You go ahead of me into every hallway and every dining hall. You will not leave me here. Give me one honest friend, and courage until then. Amen.

- Still deciding what you believe You do not have to be sure to be here.
- If you have never prayed before You do not need the right words to start.
- Before the exam For the night before, when your mind will not stop.
- 2 a.m., still awake For the nights everything is louder in the dark.
- Lonely in a crowd For the room full of people and the walk back alone.
- The class that shook what you believed Perplexed is allowed. Despair is not required.
- Money, and the job on top of the classes Rent, the shifts, the meal plan running out.
- The breakup For the week the whole campus is one person.
